چکیده

Breeding blueberry cultivars with enhanced fruit quality requires simple, accurate, and cost-effective assays to select individuals from segregating populations. In this study, berry diameter, weight, firmness, pH, total polyphenol, acids, D-glucose, D-fructose, glucose, sugar content were quantified in 188 southern highbush selections over 2 years. Significant variation between years, genotype, year × genotype interaction was detected for all traits. Glucose fructose the predominant sugars, they a range of 32.14–64.72 28.61–69.63 mg/mL, respectively. Total sugars ranged 62.22 131.15 mg/mL. Correlation analysis showed strong positive correlation measured discrete analyzer soluble solids assessed as Brix ( r = 0.96). addition, fructose, glucose high them content. The titratable acidity positively correlated acids 0.60) diameter weight 0.94) detected. Principal component (PCA) that PC1 explained 44.9% major contributing traits diversity sugars. PC2 accounted 21.2% mainly attributed diameter. Cluster genotypes fell into two groups. Cluster-I comprised highest amounts sugar, whereas Cluster-II has distinctly lower tested compounds larger berries. Information obtained study is critical identify superior future crosses advance evaluation. firmness tester used invaluable improving efficiency precision phenotyping.

Chemical composition of selected cultivars of highbush blueberry fruit (Vaccinium corymbosum L.)

The purpose of the study was to compare basic fruit chemical composition of four highbush blueberry cultivars: ‘Spartan’, ‘Bluecrop’, ‘Jersey’ and ‘Blueray’. The plants were grown on plantation near Szczecin in the years 2001 – 2003. Basic chemical composition of fruit including total ash, crude fibre, total nitrogen, soluble solids, titratable acidity, dry weight and total polyphenol content w...

Correlation between sensory and instrumental measurements of standard and crisp-texture southern highbush blueberries (Vaccinium corymbosum L. interspecific hybrids)

BACKGROUND Fruit texture is a primary selection trait in southern highbush blueberry (SHB) breeding to increase fresh fruit postharvest quality and consumer acceptance. A novel crisp fruit texture has recently been identified among SHB germplasm. In this study, we developed a common set of descriptors that align sensory evaluation of blueberry fruit texture with instrumental measures that could...

Effect of Pullulan Coating on Postharvest Quality and Shelf-Life of Highbush Blueberry (Vaccinium corymbosum L.)

Fruits form an important part of a healthy human diet as they contain many ingredients with proven pro-health effects such as vitamins, phenolic compounds, organic acids, fiber, and minerals. The purpose of this work was to evaluate the effect of pullulan coating on the quality and shelf life of highbush blueberry during storage. General appearance, weight loss, dry matter, soluble solid conten...

Native Bee Diversity and Pollen Foraging Specificity in Cultivated Highbush Blueberry (Ericaceae: Vaccinium corymbosum l.) Plantings in Rhode Island

Approximately 87% of flowering plants in the world are pollinated by animals. Bees are some of the most economically and ecologically important pollinators, necessary for the production of about one third of all crops. One such crop is highbush blueberry, grown throughout Rhode Island in small acreages. I conducted a survey of the bee species foraging on managed blueberry farms throughout Rhode...

Fruit quality parameters of some southern highbush blueberries (Vaccinium xcorymbosum L.) grown in Andalusia (Spain)

Physical and chemical parameters of fresh berries from three southern highbush (‘O’Neal’, ‘Sharpblue’ and ‘Misty’) blueberry cultivars grown in Huelva (Southwestern Spain) under two production systems were measured and evaluated. ANOVA applied to data yielded significant differences between production systems for mean fruit size and mean fruit fresh weight (P<0.05), although main effects on phy...
